    Your questions answered.

Is it free to create an account?
Yes. A ShareSaathi account is free and takes about a minute with Google or email. You can browse prices before you sign in. KYC is asked only when shares are ready to move into your demat, so opening an account does not start a verification process.
How does buying unlisted shares work on ShareSaathi?
Choose a company, place a buy order, and pay by UPI or bank transfer (RTGS, NEFT or IMPS). Credit cards are not accepted. Once payment is confirmed, the shares are transferred into your demat, typically the same day (T+0) — under 24 hours of the order. A relationship manager can also place the order with you over the phone.
Can I buy shares that already trade on NSE or BSE?
No. ShareSaathi only quotes unlisted and pre-IPO names that still change hands off-market, including Zepto, Razorpay and MSEI. The price list is for those off-market names. Listed stocks are bought through your broker on the exchange.
What unlisted shares can I buy?
More than 100 unlisted and pre-IPO companies, across sectors, with asks that are updated as the off-market moves. A name appears when we can actually source it, and the lot size is shown before you order. Supply changes, so a company on the list today can have a different lot tomorrow.
Is it safe to buy unlisted shares through ShareSaathi?
Shares are sourced from verified intermediaries and credited to your own demat. ShareSaathi does not keep them in a wallet. You see the price, the lot and the payment steps before you pay. That makes the transfer traceable. It does not remove the chance that the price falls later.
What are unlisted shares and pre-IPO shares?
Unlisted shares are equity in a company that is not trading on the NSE or BSE. Pre-IPO shares are unlisted shares in a company that is expected to list. You are buying the same kind of share early, in the private market, before an exchange price exists.
How is the price of unlisted shares determined?
There is no exchange order book. Buyers and sellers agree a price off-market, using supply, recent funding rounds, company news and the grey-market premium. ShareSaathi publishes a current ask so you are comparing one number, rather than quotes gathered from several brokers.
Can I sell my unlisted shares before the IPO?
Yes. You can sell through ShareSaathi before a company lists, as an off-market transfer to another buyer. A sale needs someone willing to take the shares at a price you accept, so it can take longer than selling a listed stock. If demand is thin, you may wait or accept a lower price.
What are the tax implications of selling unlisted shares?
Unlisted shares held for more than 24 months are generally taxed as long-term capital gains. A shorter hold is short-term and taxed at your income-tax slab. Listed equity uses a 12-month line, so the holding clock here is longer. Your CA should confirm the rate that applies to you.
What is the minimum investment amount for unlisted shares?
There is no single platform minimum. Each company is sold in a lot, and the smallest order is that lot multiplied by the share price. For many names that comes to roughly ₹10,000–₹50,000. Some lots are larger. The price list shows the lot before you place an order.
Do you guarantee returns on unlisted shares?
No. The price can fall, a planned IPO can slip or be dropped, and a buyer may not be there when you want to exit. ShareSaathi shows the ask, company notes and grey-market context so you can judge the name. It does not promise a profit.
What else does ShareSaathi offer besides unlisted shares?
Company pages, market notes and grey-market context sit next to the price, so you can read the name before you order. Once you have an account, you can track what you hold and come back to the same research. The buying desk and the notes are part of one account.
Can NRIs invest in unlisted shares in India?
Yes, on a non-repatriation basis, usually through an NRO account and a demat that can receive unlisted shares. The shares are credited to that demat, the same way as for a resident. Confirm with your bank that the demat is linked to the NRO account before you order.
What happens to my unlisted shares when the company goes for an IPO?
On listing day, the shares already in your demat become listed shares of that company. You do not move them to a new account. After any lock-in, you can sell them on the exchange through your existing broker, the same way you sell any other holding.
Is there any lock-in period for unlisted shares after an IPO?
Yes. SEBI generally locks shares bought in the unlisted market for six months from the listing date. During those six months you cannot sell them on the exchange. The lock-in applies to the shares you held before listing, not to shares you buy on the exchange afterwards.
    Do unlisted companies pay dividends?
Some do, usually companies that are already profitable. A declared dividend is credited to the bank account linked to your demat, as with a listed share. Many early-stage companies pay nothing, so a dividend is a bonus of that business, not a feature of unlisted shares in general.
What is the difference between ESOPs and unlisted shares?
An ESOP is a right your employer gives you to buy shares later, often at a fixed price, and it may vest over several years. An unlisted share is the share itself, already issued, and anyone who can source it can buy or sell it. Exercising an ESOP can leave you holding unlisted shares. An order on ShareSaathi is a purchase of shares, not options.
How can I verify if the shares are credited to my Demat account?
The shares show in your NSDL or CDSL statement and in your broker's holdings, such as Zerodha or Upstox. That is usually the same day (T+0), within 24 hours of the order. If they are still missing after two business days, your relationship manager can trace the transfer with the depository reference.
Why should I invest in unlisted shares?
You can own a company before it has an exchange price, which is how some investors have made large gains when a listing goes well. The same early entry can lose money if the business or the IPO plan disappoints. It fits money you can leave invested, not cash you may need in the next few months.
Is a Demat account mandatory for buying unlisted shares?
Yes, before the shares can be transferred. They are held in demat form and credited to your account, so there is no paper certificate to store. You can browse prices without a demat. You need an active one, in the same name as the order, before the transfer is sent.
Can I use my existing Zerodha, Upstox, or Groww Demat account?
Yes. A demat from Zerodha, Upstox, Groww, Angel One or your bank can hold these shares. ShareSaathi does not ask you to open another demat. The account should be active, and the PAN on it should match the name on the order.
What are the risks associated with unlisted shares?
A buyer can be hard to find, public financials are thinner than for a listed company, and the price can jump on very little volume. The company can also delay or cancel an IPO. Read the company page first, and use money you can leave invested if the exit takes longer than you hoped.
How long does it take for unlisted shares to reflect in my Demat account?
After payment is confirmed and the transfer is executed, shares usually appear the same day (T+0), within 24 hours of the order. Transfers started late in the day, or on weekends and depository holidays, may show the next working session. If a name is in short supply, the transfer starts once the shares are matched to your order.
What payment methods do you accept?
UPI, and bank transfer by RTGS, NEFT or IMPS. Your relationship manager can also complete the payment with you on a call. Credit cards are not accepted, including cards routed through a payment app.
Who can invest in unlisted shares?
A resident Indian, an NRI, an HUF or a company, with a valid PAN and an active demat in that same name. The demat is where the shares will sit. An HUF or a company order should be placed in the entity's name, not in a personal account.
Is it legal to buy and sell unlisted shares in India?
Yes. Unlisted shares change hands through off-market transfers, which the Companies Act and SEBI's depository rules allow. ShareSaathi uses that path: you pay, then the shares are transferred into your demat. It is not a trade on the NSE or BSE.
Can I transfer unlisted shares to my family members?
Yes. Your broker can move them off-market to a family member's demat with a Delivery Instruction Slip, or online through CDSL Easiest or NSDL Speed-e. That transfer is one you start from your own demat. It is separate from selling the shares to a buyer on ShareSaathi.
