Jio IPO Allotment Today: How to Check Your Status, Your Odds and What Happens Next

The basis of allotment for the Jio Platforms IPO is being finalised today, October 26. More than 1.35 crore applications chased India's largest-ever IPO, so many people will not get shares. Here is how to check your status, what your real odds were, and what happens to your money and your shares over the next two days.

Jio fixed the final issue price at ₹1,119 a share, the top of its ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 band. The ₹30,213 crore issue drew bids worth about ₹4.90 lakh crore, and anchor investors had already put in ₹8,110 crore before it opened.

How to check your Jio IPO allotment status

Results usually appear on the registrar's site first, in the evening. If your status does not show yet, check again later tonight or tomorrow morning.

On KFin Technologies (the registrar)

  1. Go to ipostatus.kfintech.com.
  2. Select Jio Platforms Ltd from the list.
  3. Choose PAN, application number or demat account number, and enter it.
  4. Fill in the captcha and submit.

On BSE

  1. Open the BSE allotment page at bseindia.com/investors/appli_check.aspx.
  2. Keep the issue type as Equity and select Jio Platforms Ltd.
  3. Enter your PAN or application number and search.

On NSE

  1. Open the NSE IPO bid verification page and log in with your PAN.
  2. Select Equity & SME IPO bid details, choose JPL, and submit.

You can also check in your broker app, or simply look for an SMS from your bank. If the blocked amount is debited, you have shares. If it is released, you do not.

How the issue was subscribed

CategoryTimes subscribed
Qualified institutional buyers (QIB)70.55x
Non-institutional investors (HNI), overall14.00x
HNI, bids above ₹10 lakh15.89x
HNI, bids ₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh10.22x
Retail investors2.72x
Reliance Industries shareholders7.60x
Overall22.19x

Institutions bid for more than 70 times the shares kept for them. Retail demand was far calmer at 2.72 times, which is good news if you applied as a retail investor.

What were your odds?

Retail. About 70.9 lakh lots of 12 shares were kept for retail investors, against bids for about 1.93 crore lots (our calculation). When retail is oversubscribed, SEBI rules give one lot to as many applicants as possible, picked by lottery. If every applicant had bid for one lot, roughly 1 in 2.7 would get shares. Many people bid for more than one lot, so there are fewer applicants than lots bid, and the real odds are better than that. Applying for extra lots did not improve your chances. Successful retail applicants will mostly get just one lot.

RIL shareholder quota. This category was 7.6 times subscribed, so the odds here are much lower than in retail. If you applied in both the retail and the shareholder categories, you had two separate chances.

HNIs. Small HNIs (₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh) also get shares by lottery, in units of the minimum HNI application. At 10 times subscription, most will miss out.

What happens next

DateWhat happens
Monday, October 26Basis of allotment finalised. Status goes live in the evening
Tuesday, October 27Money released (UPI mandate revoked or ASBA unblocked) if you did not get shares. Shares credited to demat if you did
Wednesday, October 28Listing on NSE and BSE. Pre-open price discovery in the morning, trading from about 10 am

If you got shares, check that 12 Jio Platforms shares (or more) appear in your demat holdings by Tuesday evening. If they don't, contact your broker first and then KFin Technologies.

If you did not, the amount should be released by Tuesday. If it is still blocked on Wednesday, raise it with your bank and quote your application number.

What the grey market expects

The grey market premium (GMP) was about ₹247 a share on October 26, up from ₹215 to ₹220 when the dates were announced. That points to a listing price around ₹1,366, about 22% above the issue price. On one lot of 12 shares, that would be a gain of about ₹2,960 before tax and charges (our calculation).

The GMP is an unofficial number from informal dealers. It is not regulated, it often moves on listing day, and it does not guarantee anything.

Sell on listing day or hold?

That depends on why you applied.

  • If you applied for a listing gain, remember that a sale within 12 months is taxed as a short-term capital gain at 20%, plus brokerage and STT. On a ₹2,960 gain, the tax alone would be about ₹590.
  • If you want to own Jio for the long term, gains after 12 months are taxed at 12.5%, and the first ₹1.25 lakh of long-term equity gains each year is tax-free. At ₹1,119 Jio is valued at about ₹10.3 lakh crore, or roughly 34 times FY26 profit. That is not cheap, so you are paying for growth that still has to come.
  • If you did not get shares, you don't have to chase the stock on day one. Listing-day prices for big IPOs can swing sharply in the first hour. Our IPO explainer covers Jio's business, numbers and valuation in detail.

What it means for the unlisted market

About ₹4.9 lakh crore was tied up in Jio bids last week. Most of it comes back to bank accounts on Tuesday. Some of that money usually looks for the next opportunity, which can include pre-IPO and unlisted shares of companies close to listing.

A strong Jio debut would also help confidence in the wider IPO pipeline. That matters to unlisted investors, who are betting that their companies will list at a good price. If you hold unlisted shares in a company with an IPO coming up, our guide to the lock-in rules for pre-IPO buyers explains how long you may have to wait after listing before you can sell.

Jio Platforms itself was never traded in the unlisted market. If anyone offered you "Jio pre-IPO shares" before this issue, it was not a genuine offer.

The bottom line

Check your status on KFin Technologies this evening. If you got shares, they will arrive on Tuesday and you can sell from Wednesday. If you didn't, your money will be released on Tuesday. Either way, decide based on whether you want to own Jio, not just on the grey market number.
