Kineco and Vande Bharat: How a Goa Composites Maker Built a ₹3,000 Crore Order Book

In September 2025 Kineco had about ₹497 crore of unexecuted orders. By 26 May 2026 the Goa composites maker said its order book had crossed ₹3,000 crore (about $300 million). Almost all of the increase came from one programme: interiors for Indian Railways' Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. This post covers what Kineco supplies, who it supplies to, and what has to go right for those orders to become revenue.

What Kineco makes for Indian trains

Kineco Limited began in 1994 making fibre-reinforced plastic process equipment. Its rail arm, Kineco Global Rail, now supplies:

  • Nose cones: the aerodynamic front ends of Vande Bharat trains. Kineco dispatched its 100th in June 2025.
  • Sleeper interiors: cubicle (berth) interiors, doors and vacuum toilet systems for Vande Bharat Sleeper trains.
  • Other coach parts: vestibules, interior panels and composite structures for the Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat and Amrit Bharat programmes.

Production is at Pilerne, Goa. A Vande Bharat Sleeper train has 16 coaches, about 823 berths and a design speed of up to 180 km/h. That is a lot of cubicles, doors and toilets per train, which is why the interior contracts are so large.

How the order book grew

DateOrder bookWhat happened
30 Sep 2025~₹497 CrICRA: railways, defence and industrial orders; top five orders over 90% of the total
By Nov 2025+₹100 CrOrder from Kinet Railway Solutions; ICRA said a much larger order was in advanced negotiation
26 May 2026>₹3,000 CrVande Bharat Sleeper interior contracts from Indian Railways and private train builders; Vivek Srivastava named Group CEO

Kinet Railway Solutions is a joint venture between Russia's TMH and Indian Railways' RVNL that is building Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. Most coverage says Kineco's contracts cover interiors for 100 sleeper trains; one trade report links the Kinet contract to 120 sleeper sets. Kineco has not published contract-by-contract values.

Beyond India: Semvac and TRB

Kineco has bought two European rail suppliers to sell complete interior systems, not just parts:

  • Semvac A/S (Denmark): rail sanitation and vacuum toilets, acquired December 2024.
  • TRB Lightweight Structures (Huntingdon, UK): a 70-year-old maker of lightweight panels for European and Asian train builders, acquired September 2025. TRB keeps its brand and UK base.

Both now sit under Kineco Global Rail. They give Kineco European customers and technology it can use on Indian sleeper trains.

Defence and aerospace

Rail dominates the order book, but Kineco also builds sonar domes, radomes and lightweight rapid-deployment bridges for defence. Its former Kaman joint venture, now wholly owned, makes aerospace composite parts. ICRA noted steady order flow from defence.

What has to go right

  • Execution: ₹3,000 crore is roughly seven times FY2026 revenue of ₹433 crore. Turning it into sales means scaling a Goa factory, its supply chain and its working capital at the same time. ICRA has warned of liquidated damages if deliveries slip.
  • Concentration: a few large rail contracts make up most of the book, so a delay in one programme hits the whole company.
  • Margins: FY2026 EBITDA margin fell to about 11.5% from 18% while revenue grew 77% (full FY26 breakdown). Large orders do not help investors much unless margins hold.
  • Price already reflects it: at ₹3,750 (28 Oct 2026), the unlisted price values Kineco at about ₹2,908 crore, roughly 118 times FY2026 profit.
